A family firm, not a sales operation.
Fitting stairlifts since 2007. You speak to the same people from the first telephone call to the service visits years later.
Who we are
Direct Stairlifts Ltd is an independent, family-run company that has been fitting stairlifts since 2007. We work in ordinary homes around Derby and across Derbyshire, and our engineers are based here rather than sent out from somewhere else.
That means the person who surveys your stairs, the person who fits the lift and the person who comes back to service it all work for the same small firm. If something changes in the way the lift travels in three years’ time, you ring the number you already have.
We are listed on Derbyshire County Council’s Trusted Trader scheme (opens in a new tab), where you can read our profile.

How we work
Three habits that decide how every job here is run.
- We measure before we advise
- Every recommendation follows a home survey, because staircases vary far more than people expect.
- We explain things plainly
- No jargon, no pressure, and no attempt to sell a configuration your stairs cannot take.
- We put it in writing
- You receive a written quotation setting out the components, the work and what is included.
What we fit
Direct Stairlifts creates suitable installations using modular stairlift components from trusted suppliers. Rails, carriages, seats and controls are chosen to suit the staircase and the person using the lift.
Because the components are modular, we can adapt the installation to your home rather than asking your home to suit a fixed product. We only install stairlifts that meet current British and European safety standards, and every lift can be bought outright or rented.
Installation and ongoing support
- One point of contact for the survey, the installation and the years afterwards.
- A demonstration at handover, taken at your own pace.
- Routine servicing to help keep the lift running smoothly.
- Repair support if something changes in the way the lift travels.
After your stairlift is fitted
A stairlift is used several times a day for years, so the support that follows matters as much as the installation.
- You keep the same number
- The company that fitted your lift is the one that looks after it. There is no handover to a separate service department, and no question of who to ring.
- Routine servicing
- Regular checks to keep the lift running smoothly, including battery changes and the wear items that need replacing over time.
- Help if something changes
- If the lift stops, sounds different or travels unevenly, stop using it and telephone us. The freephone line is answered around the clock, and an engineer will call you back.
- Lifts fitted by other companies
- We can often service and repair stairlifts we did not install, so moving to us does not mean replacing a lift that still works.
