Accessibility statement
In short: this site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA, and we have listed the issues we know about rather than claiming there are none.

1 Our commitment
This website is used by people who are finding stairs difficult, and often by their families on their behalf. It should be straightforward to use however you browse, whether that is with a keyboard, with a screen reader, at a large text size, or on a small screen.
You can also do everything here by telephone instead. Nothing on this site is the only route to us.
2 What has been done
- Body text is at least 17 pixels, and 18 from tablet width upwards.
- Text and controls have been chosen for contrast against their backgrounds.
- Every part of the site can be reached and operated with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline throughout.
- Buttons and links are large enough to press comfortably.
- Headings are properly ordered, landmarks are labelled, and images carry descriptive alternative text.
- The enquiry form has permanently visible labels, required fields marked in words, and errors described in text rather than by colour.
- Nothing moves, flashes or rotates on its own, and reduced-motion settings are honoured.
- The site is built to work at 320 pixels wide and when text is enlarged.
3 Known issues
These are the things we know are not right yet. Listing them is more useful to you than claiming there are none.
- Some of the photography is illustrative rather than of our own installations. The alternative text describes what each image shows, and will be updated as our own photographs replace them.
- When the cookie banner appears, keyboard focus does not move to it. It can be reached with the Tab key after the rest of the page.
- The enquiry form has not yet been tested with users of screen readers or voice control.
- No testing has yet been carried out with assistive technology users, or with older adults, in their own homes.
- The comparison table on the home page scrolls sideways on a narrow screen. It can be reached and panned with a keyboard, but it is not as comfortable to read as the rest of the page on a small phone.
4 How conformant this site is
This site has been built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA. It has not yet been audited against that standard, so we are not claiming that it fully conforms.
If we commission an audit, we will say so here and update the date above.
5 How this statement was prepared
This statement was prepared on 5 October 2026. It describes how the site was designed and built, and the points above were checked by inspection.
It has not been tested with assistive technologies, which is recorded as a known issue above.
6 Telling us about a problem
If you cannot use part of this website, please tell us. Telephone 0800 530 0025 or email enquiries@directstairlifts.co.uk and describe what happened and what you were trying to do. It is genuinely useful to us.
We will reply within five working days. If you need information from this site in another format, such as large print or read to you over the telephone, ask and we will arrange it.
7 If you are not happy with our response
Direct Stairlifts Ltd is a private company, so the statutory accessibility regulations that apply to public sector websites do not apply to us. Our duty to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010 does.
If you are unhappy with how we have responded, the Equality Advisory and Support Service can advise you, on 0808 800 0082.
